Basile Ausländer Born in 1996 in Lausanne, cellist Basile Ausländer is praised for the quality of his playing and his musical versatility. Winner of several first prizes in Swiss competitions, he has performed as a soloist since the age of fourteen. He studied at the Lausanne University of Music under François Salque, where he obtained his Soloist Master's degree with the highest distinction in 2017 and received the Max D. Jost Prize for the best solo recital. He continued his training at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki with Marko Ylönen, graduating in 2021, while also perfecting his craft with masters such as Ivan Monighetti, Gary Hoffman, Philippe Müller and Boris Andrianov.

Chamber music occupies a central place in his artistic activity. He regularly collaborates with pianist Jansen Ryser – with whom he records a 2026 Aparté album devoted to Honegger, Enescu and Poulenc – as well as with Claudia Reyes Segovia, Tim Crawford, Pau Fernández Benlloch, Andrei Baranov, Pekka Kuusisto, Ossi Tanner, Rebekka Roozeman, the Zeitgeist ensemble and Kari Kriikku, with whom he notably performed Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time. Invited to the Trondheim International Chamber Music Academy in 2018, he also performs at festivals such as Lavaux Classic in Switzerland, Kamarikesä in Finland, and in Spain. He has appeared on numerous international stages: at the Victoria Hall in Geneva, the KKL Lucerne, the Salle de Musique in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the Philharmonie de Paris, the Halle aux Grains in Toulouse, the Wiener Konzerthaus and the Musikverein in Vienna, the Flagey Hall in Brussels, the Atheneum in Bucharest as part of the Enescu Festival, the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, the Felsenreitschule in Salzburg, as well as the Esplanade Concert Hall and the Conservatory Concert Hall in Singapore, the Seoul Arts Center, and in Daegu and Tongyeong in South Korea.

Basile Ausländer has been a member of the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra since 2022 and held the position of principal cello of the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire in 2023. Since 2024, he has been second principal cello of the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra. He also collaborates with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Avanti! orchestra and MusicAeterna of Perm. He has performed under the baton of conductors such as Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Susanna Mälkki, Klaus Mäkelä, Eva Ollikainen, Gianandrea Noseda, David Zinman, Ton Koopman, Barbara Hannigan, Renaud Capuçon, Thierry Fischer, Hossein Pishkar, Antonello Manacorda, Christian Zacharias, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Joshua Weilerstein, Bertrand de Billy, Christoph Eschenbach and Sunwook Kim. In 2026, he records his first album for the Aparté label, with the support of the Fondazione Crescendo con la Musica, in the setting of the Salle de Musique in La Chaux-de-Fonds, confirming his place among the most promising Swiss musicians of his generation.
