Couperin: Pièces de viole
Christophe Rousset, Atsushi Sakai, Marion Martineau, Isabelle Saint-Yves
AP166 - 1CD - 62 - Feb 23, 2018

"The violist Atsushi Sakaï dedicates his new disc to Couperin (a programme completed by a few pieces of Forqueray). The recorded works as well as their genesis bathe in the mysterious atmosphere.

If the paternity of Couperin's pieces for viols can be attributed to François since the beginning of the 20th century, that of Forqueray is still uncertain. This enigmatic aura inspires Atsushi Sakaï and his partners: Christophe Rousset on the harpsichord, and Marion Martineau and Isabelle Saint-Yves on the viols. Their interpretation is adorned with a touching charm.

The melancholy, even the gloomy vibe of the works, alternates with frank cheerfulness in the dances from Couperin’s First Suite. What strikes here is the musicians’ flawless technique at the service of the grace of these baroque pieces."
