Lorraine Campet, 2025 Instrumental Soloist Revelation, Releases Her Debut Album!

The double bass finally takes center stage! Named 2025 Instrumental Soloist Revelation at the Victoires de la Musique Classique and principal double bassist of the Paris Opera Orchestra, Lorraine Campet is emerging as one of the most promising instrumentalists of her generation. With Âmes sœurs, her debut album, she offers a passionate journey into the heart of Romanticism, shining a light on Schubert, Schumann, Beethoven, and the unjustly overlooked Joséphine Lang.

Recorded with pianist Nathanaël Gouin, Âmes sœurs is the result of a rare musical bond. Centered around Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata, which Lorraine Campet transcribed herself from the original manuscript, this bold program reveals the full narrative and expressive power of the double bass.

Between major Romantic works such as Schumann’s Fantasiestücke and Beethoven’s Variations on The Magic Flute, and fascinating rarities, the soloist also invites listeners to rediscover five lieder by Joséphine Lang, a long-overlooked composer. A recording that is at once virtuosic, sensitive, and committed — offering a fresh perspective on the double bass.

An Exceptional Musician

With degrees in both double bass and violin from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, Lorraine Campet has had a truly remarkable journey. Appointed co-principal of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France at just 17, she now serves as principal soloist at the Paris Opera.

Invited by leading orchestras such as the London Symphony and the Swedish Radio Orchestra, Lorraine Campet has performed under renowned conductors including Teodor Currentzis and Gustavo Dudamel. She also shines as a chamber musician alongside artists such as Barbara Hannigan, Renaud Capuçon, and the Trio Wanderer.

With Âmes sœurs, she confirms her singular talent and bold vision for an instrument she elevates to new heights.

“The double bass is such a versatile instrument, and often plays a supporting role, so it was really important for me to present it in its most essential form — to give it the attention it deserves and the space to express itself as a true solo instrument.”
