A soloist with the Paris Opera and a 2025 Victoires de la Musique Révélation, Lorraine Campet explores German Romanticism alongside pianist Nathanaël Gouin. Their album reimagines Schubert, Schumann, and Beethoven on the double bass while also highlighting the overlooked lieder of Josephine Lang.
A solo double bass at the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Paris and a “Révélation 2025” at the Victoires de la musique, Lorraine Campet is one of the foremost figures of her instrument.
Performing in a chamber setting alongside pianist Nathanaël Gouin, she presents a debut album devoted to German Romanticism. With the deep, warm timbre of the double bass, Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata, Schumann’s Fantasiestücke – formidable in their virtuosity – and Beethoven’s Variations on The Magic Flute emerge in a new light. These are complemented by the splendid lieder of Josephine Lang, a little-known composer and friend of the Schumanns, which shine as gems in this intimate and impassioned recording.
