Described by critics as an ‘exceptional violinist’ with a ‘fiery temperament’, an ‘intense, radiant, magnificent’ sound and ‘impressive virtuosity’, Virgil Boutellis-Taft is a regular guest on the world’s great stages, playing in halls such as the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, Wigmore Hall, Benaroya Hall, Tel Aviv Opera or the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. He has played as a soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia… and has performed at prestigious international festivals such as the Bowdoin International Music Festival, La Roque d’Anthéron, la Folle Journée, Les Moments Musicaux de la Baule, Les Violons de Légende, Valdres, Prussia Cove, the Red Sea – Valery Gergiev Festival and the Gstaad New Year Music Festival.
After studying at the Paris Conservatoire, Virgil continued his training at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, then at the Royal College of Music in London, with post-doctoral study in the context of Tel Aviv University’s International Music Programme. During his studies, he worked with Zakhar Bron, Ivry Gitlis, Ida Haendel, Schlomo Mintz, Igor Oistrakh, Haim Taub, Hagai Shaham, Almita Vamos…As well as studying the violin, Virgil began playing the piano when he was seven years old.
Virgil plays on a 1742 Venetian Domenico Montagnana ‘ex-Régis Pasquier’ violin, thanks to the generous support of a private patron.
