Marina Viotti first studied flute, and experimented with jazz, gospel and heavy metal. She got a master’s degree in philosophy and literature, before she began her vocal training in Vienna and continued at the Lausanne University of Music where completed her studies with a diploma as a soloist. Her first steps on the operatic stage took her to the Lausanne Opera, the Lucerne Theatre and, as part of the young ensemble, to the Grand Théâtre de Genève.
Since then, she sang roles roles like Bradamante (Alcina) in Lausanne and Strasburg, Rosina (The Barber of Seville) at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, at the Sanxay Festival and the Arena di Verona, Melibea (Viaggio a Reims) at the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona and in Valencia, Maddalena (Rigoletto), at the Munich Staatsoper, the Zurich Opera and Teatro alla Scala, where she has recently performed Nicklausse/Muse (The Tales of Hoffmann).
With the Gulbenkian Orchestra, she was recently heard in a semi-staged performance of Poulenc’s La Voix humaine. Her career highlights include the roles of Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Dorabella (Così fan tutte) at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, Alceste at the Rome Opera, and La Périchole at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées.
Marina Viotti’s concert repertoire includes among others: Mozart C Messe, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder, Rossini’s Little solemn mass, and Verdi’s Requiem. She is also a concert guest artist at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and in Grafenegg, Austria. With her diverse and large recital programmes, she has been a guest at many festivals, from France to Japan, via Spain, Brazil and Germany, with recitals such as "Porque existe otro querer" and "Love has no borders".
Marina Viotti was named Lyric Artist of the Year at the Victoires de la Musique awards.
