"Super-soloist"—this is how France Musique introduced Dmitry Masleev when he made his debut with the Orchestre National de France in early 2020, performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, the very piece that launched his international career when he won the 2015 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in Moscow. His recital debut at the Philharmonie de Paris in March 2022 confirmed that a new phenomenon had emerged among the most exciting pianists of the new generation: “What an artist! And everything is so simple, so ingenuous, without ever explaining the music…” (Alain Lompech, Bachtrack).
Among Dmitry’s most recent engagements was a highly anticipated concert (postponed three times due to lockdown) at Vienna’s Golden Hall of the Musikverein, where he performed Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Györ Philharmonic Orchestra and Martin Rajna, continuing a fruitful collaboration that began in 2018. Other recent appearances include performances with the Basel Symphony Orchestra and Ariane Matiakh, the Hungarian Radio Orchestra, and a return to the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan. Dmitry's orchestral collaborations also include the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra (Robert Trevino), the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France (Mikko Franck), the Orchestre National de Lyon (Tan Dun), the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra (Christoph Eschenbach), the Orquestra Cadaqués (David Robertson), the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra (Joshua Weilerstein), the Verbier Festival Orchestra (Gábor Takács-Nagy), and many more. Dmitry frequently performs in recital, appearing at major festivals such as La Roque d’Anthéron, Verbier, Lucerne, Montreux, Rheingau, Bergamo and Brescia, Bodensee, Bad Kissingen, Périgord Noir, as well as Klavierfestival Ruhr, Les Pianos Folies du Touquet, and La Folle Journée.
North America fell in love with Dmitry Masleev when he made his Carnegie Hall recital debut at the Isaac Stern Auditorium in January 2017. The following year, he embarked on a coast-to-coast tour with the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra and Pavel Kogan. In the summer of 2022, he performed at the Newport Classical Festival and the Festival Napa Valley. His annual visits to South America have made him a favorite among audiences in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, and Ecuador. During the lockdown, he collaborated with Allegro HD, the continent’s leading arts and culture television network, to bring music to his fans despite travel restrictions. Recently, Dmitry was invited to the Cervantino Festival in Mexico, where he performed the repertoire featured on this album.
Dmitry frequently performs in the major capitals of Asia, both with orchestras such as the Seoul Philharmonic, the New Japan Philharmonic, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, as well as in solo recitals. Born and raised in Ulan-Ude (a Siberian town between Lake Baikal and the Mongolian border), Dmitry studied at the Moscow Conservatory under Professor Mikhail Petukhov and at the International Piano Academy at Lake Como.
