Aleksandra Kurzak was born in Poland. Between 2001 and 2007 she was a member of the ensemble of the Hamburg Staatsoper where she sang numerous roles, including Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflöte), Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Servilia (La Clemenza di Tito), Marzelline (Fidelio), Nannetta (Falstaff), Ännchen (Der Freischütz), Gilda (Rigoletto), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Musetta (La Bohème), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), Fiorilla (Il Turco in Italia), and Marie (La Fille du régiment). In 2004 she made her debut at New York’s Metropolitan Opera in the role of Olympia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann and the following year she made her Royal Opera House debut as Aspasia in Mitridate, Re di Ponto. Since then, she has made regular guest appearances in London, performing such roles as Norina (Don Pasquale), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Fiorilla, Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Susanna, the title role of Matilde (Matilde di Shabran), Gilda and the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor. She has also performed several other roles in New York (Blonde, Gilda, Gretel, Adina). In 2010, she sang at Milan’s La Scala for the first time in Rigoletto and she returned there in the seasons which followed (Susanna, the Comtesse in Comte Ory). She sang the title role in Maria Stuarda at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in 2015 and made her Paris Opera debut that same year in L’elisir d’amore. In 2016, she added several roles to her repertoire, including Nedda in Pagliacci (Zurich), Rachel in La Juive (Bayerische Staatsoper), Mimi in La Bohème (Berlin Staatsoper) and Liu in Turandot (Royal Opera House). She has performed at many of the great international opera venues (Parma, Palermo, Toulouse, Helsinki, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, Vienna, Salzburg, Valencia, Madrid, Barcelona, Cardiff, Venice, Verona…). More recently, she sang the roles of Nedda and Micaela at the Metropolitan Opera, Desdemona and Liu at the Vienna Staatsoper, Desdemona at the Hamburg Staatsoper, the title role of Luisa Miller in Monte Carlo, Micaela in Carmen, Alice Ford in Falstaff, Vitellia in La clemenza di Tito, Violetta Valery in La Traviata and Desdemona at the Paris Opera. She also played Violetta at the Verona Arena, and appeared in Madame Butterfly in Naples. During the 2019-2020 season, she took on the role of Elisabetta di Valois (Don Carlo) at the Paris Opera then sang in Pagliacci at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and at the Royal Opera House in London. She returned to the Royal Opera House and New York’s Metropolitan Opera for La Traviata and also appeared in Falstaff at the Munich Festival.
