Quatuor Byron

Formed around Lake Geneva under the guidance of Gábor Takács-Nagy, the Byron Quartet pays tribute to Lord Byron, a visionary figure of modern Europe. Trained at the Haute École de Musique de Genève, where it earned a Master’s degree in 2010, the ensemble also studied with the Ysaÿe Quartet at the C.N.R. in Paris, within the Proquartet-CEMC program, and in masterclasses with the Berg, Hagen, Cleveland, Belcea and Artemis Quartets, as well as Eberhard Feltz and György Kurtág.

The Byron Quartet performs on major European stages — Guildhall Ensemble Festival of London, Festival de Bellerive, Grange au Lac in Évian, Tonhalle Zürich, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Théâtre de Jérusalem — and is regularly featured on Espace 2, musiq’3, Klara, France Inter and France Musique. It has collaborated with Brigitte Meyer, Louis Schwitzgebel-Wang, David Kadouch, Suzanne Husson, and the Debussy, Terpsycordes and Alfama Quartets.

Alongside its concert activities, the Quartet is committed to teaching and leads numerous workshops. Winner of the Audience Prize at the Migros Cultural Percentage Chamber Music Competition in 2009, it is supported by Proquartet-CEMC, SACEM, SPEDIDAM, FCM, Pro Helvetia and the Swiss Global Artistic Foundation.

Its recordings released on the Aparté label — Shostakovich (2011) and Castelnuovo-Tedesco / Turina (2023) — have been acclaimed by international critics.
