Formed in Vienna, Austria in 2006, the Vienna Morphing Orchestra – formerly known as the Morphing Chamber Orchestra - was founded by violist, violinist, arranger, and artistic director Tomasz Wabnic. Although the ensemble was inspired by music from the Viennese classical period, they embraced other styles including baroque, romantic opera, and world music. With a repertoire that includes classical, jazz, film scores, and contemporary music, the ensemble has collaborated with a variety of artists including jazz vocalist Bobby McFerrin, composer Arvo Pärt, and opera singers Aleksandra Kurzak, Roberto Alagna, and Andreas Scholl. With their dedication to perfection, the ensemble became internationally recognized, even collaborating with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, New York. The ensemble’s 2019 release, Desire, featured soprano Aleksandra Kurzak and won the Best Foreign Album award from Poland’s Fryderyk Awards in 2021. Other albums include Mozart Concertante featuring Kurzak (2021), Cellopera featuring cellist Ophélie Gaillard (2021), and Arvo Pärt: Stabat Mater & Other Works (2022). Although the Morphing Chamber Orchestra was a smaller ensemble, the group’s popularity as a larger orchestra inspired them to change their name to the Vienna Morphing Orchestra.
