Ravel: The Flute Album

Julien Beaudiment and Célia Oneto Bensaid reinvent Ravel for flute and piano, revealing how naturally the instrument seems made for his light and dreamlike world.

What’s a flutist to do when they love Ravel? Though Ravel gave the flute some of its finest orchestral moments, he wrote little for it as a solo instrument… Alas!
Julien Beaudiment and Célia Oneto Bensaid answer this question by borrowing from the repertoire ten of the composer’s greatest works.
Daphnis et Chloé, the challenging Alborada del gracioso, La flûte enchantée or the Sonatine are thus adorned with the combined timbres of flute and piano – so much so that one might be tempted to think these transcriptions could just as well have been the original versions... A beautiful confirmation that, for Ravel, the flute truly is “the happy instrument of light and dream.”
