The album Ravel: The Complete Works with Piano by François-Xavier Poizat is a resounding success.

In October 2024, the first complete recording of Maurice Ravel’s music with piano was released. As we celebrate the composer’s 150th anniversary in 2025, let’s look back at an extraordinary recording project.

This ambitious six-disc box set brings together, for the first time, all of Ravel’s works involving the piano—from solo pieces to concertos, including chamber music and art songs.

Though Ravel is often regarded as a composer with a relatively modest output, this complete collection reveals a remarkably rich body of work, with each piece seeming to embody the pinnacle of his style: the impressionism of Miroirs, the neoclassical elegance of Le Tombeau de Couperin, the virtuosity of Gaspard de la nuit, and the evocative power of La Valse, Boléro, and Tzigane.

An extraordinary recording achievement

The result of 18 months of work, this recording brought together nearly 120 musicians, technicians, and engineers.

Surrounding François-Xavier Poizat, an outstanding artistic team brought this complete collection to life: the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Simone Menezes, the Quatuor Voce, pianist Louis Schwizgebel, violinist Michael Foyle, and the voices of Thomas Dolié, Brenda Poupard, Suzanne Jerosme, and Florent Karrer. Together, they explored the many facets of Ravel’s universe with precision and sensitivity, delivering a performance as ambitious as it is accomplished.

A remarkable collector’s item

Released as a limited and numbered edition, the box set includes six discs accompanied by an extensive booklet, richly documented by Professor Deborah Mawer. A meticulously crafted item that deepens the exploration of this essential body of work.
