This album features The Art of Light Touches, a suite for two violins commissioned in 2024 from Sergey Akhunov by Gleb Dontsov and Marianna Terteryan. Inspired by this work, the composer later adapted it into a ballet for symphony orchestra.
“At the beginning of 2024, I was commissioned by two exceptional violinists based in China, Gleb Dontsov and Marianna Terteryan, to compose a piece for two solo violins. At that time, I didn’t feel ready to write music for such a duet—it seemed too ascetic. Moreover, it is well-known that the simpler the composition, the more challenging it is to create. I pondered this task for quite some time, until the title “The Art of Light Touches” emerged. I borrowed it from the works of Victor Pelevin—naturally, with the author's kind permission.
Thus, the audience is presented with a 7-part suite, “The Art of Light Touches”.
It is worth mentioning that my excitement about both the title and the new musical themes of the suite led me to write a ballet under the same name. This time, I composed it for a large symphony orchestra, but that project is part of a completely different release”.
