Continuing Concentus Musicus Wien's exploration of Harnoncourt's dream of the Classical and Romantic eras, Stefan Gottfried brings together Schubert's 5th Symphony and Haydn's Symphony in E flat major No. 99 in this second instalment on the Aparté label. Mirroring each other, these works allow us to admire the architectural mastery and melodic profusion of the young Schubert, already a master in his own kingdom, a worthy heir to the giants Mozart and Haydn, whose lyricism was always close to his heart. Recorded live as part of a concert in Vienna's Musikverein, one of the most beautiful halls in the world.
