"The sobriety and modesty of Bach's music are deeply moving. At a time when so much emphasis is placed on appearances, his music remains, spurring us on to introspection and raising existential questions that, despite the passage of centuries, remain relevant today.
I have chosen works transcribed by Busoni, Siloti or Kempff, rather than those written for the harpsichord, because their transcriptions stretch a thread between Bach's time and our modern world. This is tangible proof of the universality and timelessness of his music: it builds bridges between people of different centuries.
Thierry Escaich's music also has its roots in Bach. His latest works are reminiscent of the Leipzig cantor's music, yet strangely tinged with the colors of the 21st century: bouquets of colorful harmonies, frenzied rhythms, moments of mystical ecstasy". Béatrice Berrut
Recognized internationally and by her peers as an artist of the first rank, Swiss pianist Béatrice Berrut brings us, for her debut on the Aparté label, a very intimate vision of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. She is accompanied by a prototype Bösendorfer piano and Nicolas Bartholomée's microphones in the Flagey setting.
